It was billed as a race but yesterday's 38th annual Heptagonal college crosscountry championship was more of a one-man show. The star was Curt Alitz,a third-year man at Army, who shattered the meet record and ran the Fastest five miles at Van Cortlandt Park this season when he won in 24 minutes 13 seconds.

IMPRESSIVE RESULTS FROM STATE CHAMPS 20 years ago
Reggie Harris of O'Neill High School in Highland Falls, N.Y., recorded an impressive double victory. Harris, a junior, won the boys' 100-meter dash in 10.84 seconds, upsetting Jerome Williams of Lincoln High School in Yonkers. He then set a state mark when he captured the 400-meter dash in 46.79, the second-fastest time in the East this year

Here are the final results of the Section 9 state qualifier held Thursday at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.
The first-place finishers from Division 1 (large schools) and Division 2 (small schools) of each event automatically qualify for the state meet, to be held June 13-14 at the University at Buffalo in Amherst. The wild-card qualifiers had to be the top remaining performer (from either division) who met a state-meet standard at any time since Penn Relays in late April.
